History

Stelpro

John Chabot, a businessman with remarkable flair, founded Chalair Électrik inc. in 1981, a family business driven by success. With the help of his brother, Mike Chabot, he launched high-performance heating products with a corporate culture committed to customer service.

In 1994, Chalair Électrik acquired Stelpro Chauffage inc., an Ontario-based competitor – an acquisition that would result in a national presence.

The year 2000 was a landmark year. Yves Chabot and Éric Chabot became shareholders of the company, launching an ambitious relocation project to Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. One year later, the company inaugurated a 118,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art building, marking Stelpro Design’s 20th anniversary as one of Quebec’s greatest success stories.

Under the name Stelpro Design Inc., the company invested in such specialized equipment as an automated paint room. The organization grew at lightning speed, becoming a recognized leader in Canada’s electrical heating industry. In 2004, the company diversified into the floor heating cable sector.

The company’s 25th anniversary in 2006 marked a turning point with the departure of John Chabot and the naming of his sons Yves and Éric as co-presidents. That same year, Stelpro constructs an advanced internal research and development laboratory whose Refrigerator House – a house built inside a giant refrigerator – allows heating product testing in real-life climatic conditions.

The closing of the Richmond Hill, Ontario plant in 2010 led to production and operations being relocated to the Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville facility, which features an impressive mezzanine. The new 216,000 sq.ft. plant houses numerous technological innovations, including automated cutting-edge stamping and folding. In addition, the research and development laboratory received CSA C828-6 performance certification. The organization became the sole owner of Synapse Électronique, consolidating its position in the electronic controls sector.

The company’s 30th anniversary in 2011 was a landmark event as Yves Chabot, the sole shareholder of Stelpro Design, was appointed president, responsible for guiding the company in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

As part of a constantly evolving field, the company leveraged its success by repositioning itself and establishing a new corporate identity in 2012, in light of the fact that Stelpro Design had expanded beyond heating equipment to comprise a range of heating and ventilation products. Thus, °STELPRO 360 comfort corporate identity was launched. With its streamlined name and logo, and re-vamped Web site, °STELPRO reflects its position as the North American leader in providing total comfort solutions.

In 2014, °Stelpro was selected to join the accomplished list of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada. Thanks to a business plan focused on growth, product quality and improvement in the productivity of its facilities, °Stelpro succeeds in standing out in an industry where the challenges are many and the global competition as fierce as ever.
