Subsidies and Financial Aid for Heat Pumps
Several federal and provincial programs in Canada provide financial assistance for installing heat pumps or replacing oil or gas heating systems with electric heat pumps.

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program:
This federal program offers a grant of up to $10,000 to help homeowners replace their oil heating system with a high-efficiency heat pump. Eligible homeowners can also receive a $250 bonus to cover the costs associated with this transition. What’s more, this program can be combined with certain provincial programs for even greater savings.

Quebec
Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert Program:
This program offers financial assistance of up to $6,700 for the purchase and installation of efficient heat pumps. A 5% bonus is available if at least two energy efficiency measures are installed in the same eligible home.

Chauffez Vert Program:
This program offers a grant for replacing an oil or propane central heating system with one powered by a renewable energy source, such as electricity. The financial assistance is up to $1,275 for a single-family home.

Ontario
Home Renovation Savings Program
This Ontario government program includes a grant of up to $7,500 to replace oil-fired heating equipment with a heat pump.

Enbridge’s Clean Home Heating Initiative:
This Ontario government initiative offers homeowners in certain municipalities up to $4,500 for the installation of a hybrid heating system, which combines a heat pump with a natural gas boiler. Initially launched in cities such as Sault Ste. Marie, St. Catharines, Peterborough and London, it has now been extended to Ajax, Barrie, Pickering and Whitby.
Alberta
The Clean Energy Improvement Program is a new way to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. The project financing is attached to homeowners’ standard property tax bill, so repayments are made to municipalities.

British Columbia
The CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Programs, administered by BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Province of British Columbia, provides rebates for improving home energy efficiency through select upgrades. Depending on the electricity supplier, homeowners may be eligible for a grant of up to $2,500 to replace a gas heating system with a heat pump.

Manitoba
Efficiency Manitoba provides rebates for heat pump installation structured around the square footage of a home. In addition, financing through Manitoba Hydro’s Home Energy Efficiency Loan offers up to $5,000, which is paid back in monthly energy bills over a maximum repayment term of five years.

New Brunswick
Energy-efficient homes program
The Total Home Energy Savings program offers homeowners in New Brunswick incentives of $1,500 for eligible air-source heat pumps, $400 for mini-split heat pumps and $350 per indoor head for multizone heat pumps.

Newfoundland and Labrador
Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador can access financing through the takeCHARGE program. Eligible customers of Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland Labrador Hydro can access financing of up to $10,000 with financing terms of up to 60 months to install a qualifying heat pump. Income-qualified homeowners in Newfoundland and Labrador may also be eligible for up to $15,000 to switch from oil heating to a heat pump, as part of the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program.

Prince Edward Island
Residents of P.E.I. may be eligible for a point-of-sale rebate of $1,200 for qualifying mini-split heat pumps. In addition, residents with an annual household income of $100,000 or less could be eligible for the province’s Net Zero Free Heat Pump Program.
